Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and the title song are among the well-known songs in this well-known musical, set in Austria in 1938. It was the last musical written by the famous songwriting duo, with the Broadway version winning numerous Tony Awards.
The classic musical tells the story of the von Trapp family headed by widower, Captain von Trapp. A postulant nun is sent away from her abbey to decide whether she is suited for monastic life and serves as governess to the captain’s seven children. Baroness Elsa Schräder believes the captain is her destiny, but the governess has slowly won a place in the family’s heart. Music helps tell the story of Maria, and her search for the life she was meant to live.
